The orphan care vision for Kirabo Seeds is unique among other organizations. Beyond providing for the basic needs and care we are training leadership qualities into their lives. We have taken the bible’s way to raise children in a family and applied it to the raising of seventeen children. We’ve set high standards for the kid’s behavior, attitudes, choices, and achievements. We are preparing them to succeed in Uganda with the hopes they will have a positive impact on their society. Our greatest desire is they will pass on what they have learned in Kirabo Seeds home to the people they interact with every day. We hope the children they raise of their own will be taught personal discipline, helpfulness, forgiveness, honesty, and the word of God.
I have Angela’s permission to share a speech she wrote and spoke at our third anniversary party in May, 2015. Three years ago she arrived to our home with many problems and barely a word of English. She is fourteen now and one of two children in our home who remembers her mom before she died. In some ways this is emotionally more traumatic because she knows what she does not have. I hope you are blessed by Angela’s thoughts and words.
First of all, I want to thank all of you for coming here today: our parents, jjajjas, visitors, and kids who usually come for the movie night. We all know that a party is not made by food or drinks but by the people who come. It is all such an honor that you responded when we invited you. Thank God first of all because he has made all this happen. It has not been an easy journey.
Everyone here has a story to tell of what they have been through but let me just talk about mine. When I was young I dreamt to be in a perfect place. And the Lord helped me and brought me to Kirabo Seeds where I get everything I need. I get to know God and more in the bible. And he provided new parents in my life who love me and care. We used to live with our jjajjas and aunties who had nothing and at one time, it seemed like our lives had come to an end but by some miracle God introduced a lady into our lives. Mama Tonya adopted all of us and loved us without a reason. She started looking for sponsors who would help us go to school, with medical care, and above all a place to call home. She cares that we get everything we need in life.
Personally, I am so grateful to God because I have been given a chance to learn a lot. We learn about God every evening through devotion and when we go to church. We have a chance to read all these great books and also to learn about great places. We also go to hospital when we are sick, we never worry about having enough money to get care when we are sick.
This has given us a way to know that even if our parents are gone we will always have some people who care.
I also want to thank our jjajjas for never giving up on us. It is because of you that we are still alive. You never abandoned us. You stood by our side when our parents died. We will always love you. Never ever doubt that. (She kneeled before her elders to give this gratitude.)
I also want to thank our Aunties and Uncles for everything that they do for us. It is with them that we travel through time. We are with them through the highs and lows. When we need help, they are always available. It doesn’t matter what time you go to them their arms always open. These are people who never put us down but instead direct us on the right path of life. We love you Aunties and Uncles and may God bless you always.
Am also so proud to be here growing up with these amazing brothers and sisters of mine. We are moving together as we grow up. We fight, we laugh, and cry together. All of them are unique in their own way. And I love all of them and am proud to be a part of this big family.
Let’s take a moment of silence for our brother Boniface who we lost last year. We still remember the moments shared. Not a day goes by when we don’t think of you Bonny. We will always love you. Til we meet again rest in peace bro.
I have a lot to say but very little time, that even if I spend a lifetime I will never be able to say all that I have in my heart. Thank you for coming here today, for leaving everything in your life to come and celebrate our day together. We are truly grateful and fall short of words to say. Thank you Mama Tonya, Thank you Kirabo Seeds, Thank you Kirabo kids, thank you Jjajjas. Enjoy the rest of the party and be blessed. ~ Angela
I sit here now soaking in her emotion, her understanding of God’s hand on her life, and I am humbled to remember that God can take even a broken, flawed person such as myself, and make an impact on the other side of the world for a child who believed she was once forgotten in a little shack of her jjajajs. God arrived in the flesh and rescued her life and he uses all of us to do this. The relief in my life to know we are making a difference in the lives of children is profound as it ripples into every alley of my soul. I have to believe there are others who desire this same peace and joy and with gratitude I am in a postion to offer that opportunity.
We established Kirabo Seeds as an organization so that we could invite and include anyone who feels called to make a difference in the lives of children to join us. We welcome others to come along side and help us support these children. They thrive because people like you care. Share your hopes with me: firstname.lastname@example.org
