Last friday Jimmy was admitted to the hospital for his surgery. Can you imagine a small child like this happy to go into a surgery? He asked all the doctors to make sure he came out a normal boy so he could go to school like all the other children.
Irene sacrificed much of her time and effort searching for the best pediatric surgeon who could do this surgery. It’s not as if there are published rankings of the doctors. Finding his personal clinic once she heard of him was an ordeal in itself. She spent hours waiting and hoping he would accept the case.
The surgery was finished without complication. I received reports of the first poop through the right place in the human anatomy, and the urine flowed where it ought as well. What a celebration.
This is a miracle we were all able to participate in making happen for this small child on the other side of the planet. It is such fun for me to watch God at work. No one asked me to do something for the boy. They were only inquiring if his sister could stay at our children’s home while he waited in the hospital to get to the top of the line for the surgery. There aren’t patient nurses there so no one can leave a patient alone in the hospital, so his mother couldn’t take care of Rachel at the same time she stayed in the hospital with Jimmy.
Maybe I could have paid for the surgery and just wired the money from my personal account. Or maybe I could stand back and see God use many people full of compassion and generosity make this child’s life turn around, encourage his mother, and restore hope for good in this current world. I knew doing nothing wasn’t an option. So I wrote a blog and within three days we collected over three thousand dollars to help children in Uganda who need life saving medical care. I haven’t seen the receipts yet for his procedures, and he might need some follow up care but we’ve got funds to spare. So we’ll pray and you can pray as well that God will put another child in our path who needs surgery to save a life. I can only hope we are able to continue helping children in desperate situations realize their hopes.
Let’s celebrate with his mama that God has provided for the needs of sweet Jimmy. I pray he is able to heal and grow his strength and think back on this situation as the first of many God moments in his life. I hope he develops a love for God as a result of this miracle. Thank you especially to all of you who promptly provided for his need. I hope you share the same smile I have each time I remember these photos of Jimmy. God uses us in the simplest ways if only we hear His whispers and respond in faith. I can’t think of a single thing on this earth that gives more pleasure, peace, or joy than being inside the will of God.
