When I first lived in Katy I was privileged and asked to mentor a young woman, Mary Beth. It was such an intimate time of my life walking alongside her as she finished law school, sorted out her career path, journeyed through that first year of marriage, and committed herself to her ministry as a Young Life leader. We sought God together, we applied scripture to life circumstances, and we laughed and laughed. We looked with sharp eyes on difficult truths that caused growth spurts. She was my friend, my sister, my daughter, and my soul companion for over a year before Kira joined our family. (Ka-blam…a baby changes everything.) She is our lawyer for our adoption! And to think she studied for her bar exam in my home. God is Amazing.
It is my great joy to see this photo of her with her new baby girl. I recall long aching heart throbs she had to become a mom. I thank God for the time he gave me to walk intimately alongside Mary Beth, and to see now she’s a mama. It is precious. A mentoring relationship is one of the most rewarding privileges God has ever put in my life. My prayer is that all women both are able to mentor someone, and able to have a mentor. It is a rich blessing perfectly balanced…naturally designed by God. (Titus 2) It was one of my great spiritual thrills in my life to see God at work in her life, and use what I learned the hard way to help her over and around a few bumps.
