When my husband read the letter I wrote to the children at the orphanage, he said, “it is just as you are with our own children”. I thought maybe you would like a look into it yourself…..this is the letter the missionaries in Uganda read to the children on Valentine’s day as they all gathered in the shade to sit and listen…
Hello everyone! This is Mama Tonya. I am at my home in America now but I left a piece of my heart with you there in Uganda. I am following all the changes in your lives and I am happy to know you have milk to drink. I can’t wait to see photos of you taking care of the baby chicks, and then hear reports of how good the first eggs taste to you.
I write stories about what God is doing to help your lives be better. I put them on the internet for many people to see. The response is God sized. I want you to know more people than you will ever know love you and care about you. God puts that in the hearts of people so you will know you are never alone. I need you to continue to pray that God will send you each a sponsor so you can go to a good school and get a good education so your dreams of what you can become as an adult will be unlimited. It is time to exercise your faith muscles!
This morning when I wrote stories about how you received the clothes I sent for you it made me feel so emotional that tears poured out of my eyes for you. God has put on my heart each and every one of you so I will not stop working until your needs are met. The Holy Spirit gave me a clear sign that I needed to fast for you today so I can better hear the whispering of the Spirit, so my mind willbe opened wide as I think and plan for our mission trip in June, and so that I will humble myself before our great God and give him Glory for the way he loves us all no matter what continent we live on or how different our lives are. I also want you to know we are all the same everywhere. When I feel hungry I know your hunger and it changes me so I can be more helpful for you.
I feel my eyes open wide and I see all that is possible in your future, and I want you to pray and believe you have a great future ahead of you where you will be smart, loving, God honoring and good parents yourself someday. I feel all the distractions in life flush out of me as I fast so I can have a sharp eye for what God wants me to do next for you. He has given me a great love for you all and with God’s love we are all secure and safe always.
Today is Valentine’s day, and I’ve sent you some sweets so that you can know how sweet you are for me now that you are a part of my life. No matter how far away you are, or how long it is before I see you again, you need to believe that I pray for you every day. When I think about my own five children, I am also thinking how I can be a good Mama for you. All of you are my children and I’m going to mother you in all the ways that is best for you to grow up and know Jesus died for you to have a place in heaven some day, for you to be self-controlled, serve your community, and love with big hearts filled with a love that God gives. Happy Valentine’s day my children and friends.
I am eager to know that you are practicing brushing your teeth two times every day because if your teeth get sick it can make your whole body sick. I also want to know that you are no longer either wetting in the mattress, or forgetting to take the little ones to the latrine before bed so they can go all night without wetting. This is a practice that protects you from sicknesses and germs that stay in the mattress after they dry out. I don’t want you to get sick! We all have to learn to be healthy. When I come in June I am bringing doctors and nurses so you can all learn how to be very healthy and so you will be protected from diseases. I would love to receive more letters from you all, or pictures that Adams and Elitia can send to me through their computer. I smile so big when I hear from you. I’ll send some coloring pencils and more paper for you the next time I am able to find a friend coming to Uganda.
I’m going to write a letter to you again soon. Love one another. Be good brothers and sisters by helping everyone in every way. Be forgiving when your feelings are hurt because we all like to be forgiven when we do something wrong. Be thankful for every gift God gives you each day in even the smallest way. Pray for the people in the world who are lonely, and take yourselves off that list because you know God loves you. When I come in June I want to have talks with each and every one of you alone so we can get to know eachother very well. Until then please pray for us as we will continue to pray for you. Your family here loves you.
