Last Sunday our pastor was overviewing the book of Joel and at the end of his sermon he said, “The bible says ‘our hearts are like soil of the earth’, so let them be fertile with the Word of God and let God rain down to soak the soil with all that He has to make goodness grow abundantly.” I immediately thought of this painting by Gerhard Gluck Kleefeld:
This is one of my favorite images of all times. When I am scared and insecure I imagine I am a seed in the soil and the gardener is God who is watering me with His eternal living water so I can grow a big floating heart full of Him. It is the most reassuring image I’ve ever found that reminds me I am so loved, protected, and cared for by the Lord himself. I also know this is what Kira is experiencing now as she lives in an orphanage around the world. In her little baby heart she has to somehow know there’s a big God with a full hose of life giving water who is looking after her. What more could I ask for? I can’t think of a thing.
