I keep my time on a very short leash. My calendar sticks to me like my phone and my wedding ring. I don’t make any decisions without consulting it first. My personal rule if I am going to say yes to something new, is that I know I have to say no to something else I am already doing because I’m FULL! This also means I have to be convinced the new thing is worth giving up something I’m already doing and enjoy. I make absolute certain it doesn’t mean I’m giving up what I”m doing with and for my kids. I know already how fast they fly the coop. So I am careful before I say yes. But one thing I try to make room for is doing something creative every day because it helps keep the Tonya in me. Even when the kids were little I made time to be creative. So here are a few things I avoid so I have time to do something with my camera or words:
- excessive house keeping
- limit other hobbies
- draining relationships
- excessive shopping
I hope for all the moms out there who need to create every day believe it’s possible, because it’s worth it. I learned when I first became a stay at home mom eighteen years ago that if I just did one thing each day that didn’t get undone, then I could spend all the rest of my time doing the things that do get undone, happily.
