One week from today I will join a team of eight with our missions Pastor, Omar Garcia, from our church and we will travel to Kampala Uganda.
Our objective is to work at the Comforter Center where women go to receive support and education for choosing to have their baby rather than have an abortion. We will be doing some teaching about pro life. Sadly in Uganda people use abortion as an alternative birth control. The very simple truths we know here about abortion are not known to them, and so we hope to enlighten and cause a shift in hearts away from this practice.
These photos are from the zoo in Phoenix. But while on our trip we will go on a photo safari and I will share with you what I see. We will also visit Murcheson Falls and perhaps take a little river boat ride on the Nile.
It’s the opportunity to meet and connect with people that I am most eager to do. I have my teaching material ready but I don’t love being set apart and talking to the people. I like to sit close, look deep into one another’s eyes and share stories, feel the Christian bond from the love of Christ. I am an observer. I will soak it ALL in and memorize every detail from the color of beads the women wear, to the cracks on their heels. My great passion truly is making a real connection with another person from another culture and realizing again and again that this world is small. I relearn every time I travel that we all, that is every person from every culture, have the universal desperate need to be loved. Icarry in my heart an overflow to pour into anyone willing to accept it.
My mom is coming the day before I leave to do my job for me in my absence. The kids are excited to eat bacon for breakfast and hug her neck. I couldn’t make this trip without her, I’m most grateful she’s helping me. I have recently switched to using a blackberry so I can receive emails while I am there. I welcome prayers and support! I will be able to get internet access so I will make posts to my blog while I am there. I hope you will follow my adventure. The internet will be snail paced service so when I get back I’ll share all the details and many many photos.
Please keep us in your daily prayers from Oct. 3-13. Thanks.
