(Erica took this photo.) Much of our time in Sedona was spent in awe of the natural amusement park God created for our entertainment and pleasure. It’s gratifying in the simplest way to watch families, couples, dare devils, and especially children have a great deal of exhilarating fun. Slide Rock is the place for this sort of adventure into the spirit where the child in all of us resides and is uncontainable when it decides to burst out.
Here’s a few things I know for sure about this water: it moves swiftly, it’s freezing cold even in the desert summer, and flows over rock that is shockingly slippery and impossible to stand upon.
The water cuts through a canyon. When I stand near the water attraction and listen to the shrieks of fun it echoes in the surround of majestic canyons all round me. It’s a complete experience: beauty and adventure.
In the center of slide rock there’s a cliff that hangs over a natural nine foot water hole. It’s large enough for one person to jump off at a time. It requires some courage to jump and offers plenty of entertainment to spectators as we watch those who contemplate the jump muster up the courage. I made two videos so I could share what it feels like to be there, since it is a place of action and not stillness.
I so recommend Sedona for a family vacation or a couple’s retreat. Of all the places I’ve been in this world I keep this one closest to my heart.
