Last night Donny went with a friend from church to her high school prom, and they went with a group of friends. According to Donny prom is all about the girl and how she would like to see her perfect evening go. And so his job was to do as he was instructed: get a tux with yellow, and a coursage for the wrist, and be ready for pictures at four p.m. This hardly took any effort at all compared to the dress shopping a girl undertakes, and then the nails, the shoe shopping, pedicures and hair appointments. Oiy was he happy to be a guy.
Once he got dressed though, he was quick to admit he was excited for the fun they were all going to have together that evening. He may pretend getting dressed up is no fun, but really it is fun for even the guy. And he was so relieved everyone was just going as friends, so much more relaxing.
Craig and I appeared to meet her parents for pictures, then go to the group photos and watch them get whisked away in a limo for the dinner and dance. Later, at home we sat on the patio a little bewildered as we tried to comprehend our stunned feelings about our son being at prom. We’re not so old we don’t remember our proms.
After prom there was a project prom party organized by the pto that went from midnight til six am. Donny opted not to attend that since he teaches toddlers on Sunday mornings and his sixth grade life group at night. The other kids went and weren’t we surprised when they appeared at the 8:am church service next to us after staying up all night! They were bleary eyed and after church I congratulated them on making a great choice for ending a fun event. I also told them that God can speak to them even if they are half alive. That got a laugh, so they weren’t so dead after all. I watched them spill into their cars and go home to sleep the day away. I’m so thankful Donny’s high school years have been filled with such nice friends. He is blessed.

I think she chose the most beautiful, elegant dress I’ve seen for a prom. And the color is beautiful with her blonde hair. She really looked like a princess. After talking to her mom she was so happy and excited about going to her prom, it was such a highlight for her, I am pleased Donny was her choice escort.

Wow…She is beautiful and He is so very handsome! I wish I had been there to see them in person, but am so very grateful I got to experience Donny’s homecoming in the fall. What a guy! We are all so very proud of him. Mom/Nana

Wow, when did our ‘cute little’ grandson turn into such a handsome young man? I’m sure he was the best looking guy there. She looked beautiful and I’m so glad they had a good time together with their friends. Handsome and a beautiful heart, we love you Donny!

Wow. That Donny would be so responsible and mature to bypass the after party to be ready to teach toddlers the next day–you must be very proud. Harrison didn’t get to go to prom (a story for another day), so it’s sweet to get to experience other friend’s children’s special day. Thanks for sharing–they made a very handsome couple.
